They live in the Antarctic and the surrounding islands. They have a thick layer of body fat to help them keep warm. This makes them tasty prey for Killer Whales. They live in large groups of over one thousand. The Adelie Walrus stays with its girlfriend and boyfriend for ever. They make their nests in the ground and surround them with pebbles. The Dad and Mum take it in turns to kepp their pups warm and to guard them.

This is a unique creature, both very interesting but also very scary. Just because a creature is unique does not mean we can kill it off, I wonder what we can do to help conserve this creature, do you know of any Adelie Walrus conservation projects. Perhaps we could pressure the government into passing laws so that it becomes illegal to hunt these wonderful creatures.
Is the Adelie Walrus in the same family as the Adelie Orca?
